Random Thoughts (About the Coyotes Win, but mostly about Hossa) (Hossa)

- When Domi had a possibly broken orbital bone from a fight that was pretty stupid. Now that he has a broken hand, and needed surgery, it's down-right idiotic.

- I hate to repeat myself, but even though everyone is happy the Coyotes "responded to an embarrassing defeat with a win" when they beat Detroit 4-1 last night, they only managed to control 33% of the shots (which is the kind of % you have when you get blown out).

Now, some of that is from score effects and having a lead, but regardless, Mike Smith still had to make 37 saves. If Smith doesn't play out of his mind, the Coyotes lose again.

- The best way for the Leafs to get better would be to trade Tyler Bozak and make William Nylander centre the third line.

- Vbrata, Hanzal, Murphy, Stone - it should be raining Picks in Arizona in the very near future. I suggest loading up on picks and then using them as currency to build a team that can insulate the rookies next year.

-Nazem Kadri is quietly having an amazing year. That he survived all of the Wilson/Carlyle/Media crap of the first six years of his career and emerged as an elite two-way player is perhaps THE under-rated story of the NHL in 2016. Don't think he's elite? Tell me how many other players in the NHL are on a 50 point pace while being asked to shadow every team's best centre, and doing it successfully?

- Peter Holland was an excellent addition to the Coyotes. He could have made the Leafs better by playing ahead of Bozak.

- The Best Albums of the Year roundups, were, across the board, pretty disappointing to me.

First of all, I respect Beyonce and all, but to think she made a better record than Radiohead, Kanye or Bon Iver is preposterous. Nothing on anyone's record was anywhere near "Ultra Light Beam" "Wolves" or......well those are the only two song titles I know because I had to steal the record because I can't buy it in a store.

- I think the idiots who reviewed the new Pixies record after listening to it once did the world a disservice. Obviously it's not standing with their original four albums, but it's an interesting rock record in 2016 and that in and of itself is an accomplishment. It's better than most records I heard this year and it deserves more love.

- I assume the new Frank Ocean record was amazing as well, but since I don't know how to steal records (got my friend to burn me Kanye's but haven't seen him in a while) because I listen to music like a normal (old? better?) person, I haven't heard it.

- A lot of people say 2016 sucked. Well two of the best records didn't even come out in real copies, so they're right.

-One of the best songs of 2016 was actually written in 1995. Take that, Y2K.

-

- The four times Mike Babcock benched Connor Carrick were four of the worst decisions he's ever made as a coach.

- Last time I checked, which was Sunday, Pikke Rinne had the lowest HD Save % in the NHL among goalies who had played at least 700 minutes.

- I can give an 'I told you so' on that, but I must take one back for calling the demise of the Blackhawks dynasty. I supposed one should never under estimate the power of Marian Hossa.

- Our society is the worse for the loss of the movie store.

- At worst, Hossa comes after Patrice Bergeron as the second best defensive player of his time. He too misses Blockbuster.

- Hossa has, interestingly been involved in almost all major NHL history in someway that has happened during the course of his career: 1. Was accidentally responsible for Brian Berard's eye injury. 2. Traded for Dany Heatly 3. Was on the Thrashers, a team that ultimately failed. 4. Played with Crosby in his first Final. (lost) 5. Went to Detroit and lost to Crosby in his (Crosby's) first Cup. 6. Turned down $9 million/ year from Edmonton which would have seen him be the game's highest paid player, would have turned Edmonton instantly into a good team, Hall would still be there, and McDavid would play somewhere else today. 7. Joined the Hawks on a front-loaded, cap avoiding contract that was a prime reason the NHL had a work stoppage in 2012. 8. Went on to win 3 Cups with the Hawks. 9. Has been playing in 5 of the last 9 Cup Finals (3-2), and a total of 7 Conference Finals in his career.

- It is worth your time to learn how to make homemade Tortillas.

- According to guy on Twitter DTMabourheart, the Coyotes have a 1% chance of making the Playoffs.
