Quick Hits: October 4, 2023 1) The Flyers placed center/winger Tanner Laczynski and goaltender Cal Petersen on waivers on Tuesday for purposes of assigning the two players to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. The Flyers will learn at 2 p.m. EDT today if they've cleared.
It's unlikely that Petersen, who carries a $5 million cap hit on a contract that runs through 2024-25, will be claimed. If Petersen is assigned to the Phantoms, $1.1 million would come off the Flyers' salary cap with $3.9 million retained.
There is an off chance that Laczynski is claimed. The 26-year-old is versatile, plays a two-way game and had success at both the college and AHL levels but has struggled to earn a regular spot in the Flyers' NHL lineup. He has also had injury issues since turning pro, including missing time with torn labrums in both hips.
2) As of Wednesday morning, the Flyers still have 28 players in camp (29 if Phantoms' rookie forward JR Avon, who is rehabbing a pre-camp knee injury, is included).

3) The Flyers have an 11 a.m. EDT practice today at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees. Tomorrow night, they will host the New York Islanders at the Wells Fargo Center in the final game of the 2023 preseason schedule. Game time is 7:00 p.m. EDT.
4) AHL preseason: The Lehigh Valley Phantoms lost to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, 4-0, on Tuesday night at the PPL Center in Allentown. A significant portion of the two teams' rosters consisted of ECHL/tryout players. Notable returning Phantoms players who suited up on Tuesday included Elliot Desnoyers and Zayde Wisdom.
