1) The World Junior Summer Showcase kicks off today at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan. At 1:00 p.m. EDT, USA Blue will play Team Sweden. At 4:00 p.m., USA White will take on Team Finland. Flyers prospect Cole Knuble (drafted in the 4th round, 103rd overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft) is playing for USA Blue while Cutter Gauthier (2022 Draft, 1st round, 5th overall) and Devin Kaplan (2022 Draft, 3rd round, 69th overall) play for USA White.
On Monday, USA Blue will play Finland (4:00 p.m. EDT) while USA White squares off with Sweden (7:00 p.m. EDT).
2) Today in Flyers History: July 29
* 1990: The Flyers extend the contract of goaltending instructor Bernie Parent for two seasons. The Hockey Hall of Famer would ultimately stay on that capacity through the 1993-94 campaign before giving way to Reggie Lemelin (1994-95 to 2008-09 seasons).
* 1992: The Flyers trade unsigned Mike Bullard to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 1993 third-round pick (Vaclav Prospal).
* 1999: The Flyers re-sign Mikael Renberg and Sandy McCarthy to respective one-year contracts.
* 2005: The Flyers trade rugged winger Todd Fedoruk to the Anaheim Ducks for a 2005 second-round pick. The Flyers subsequently flip the pick to the Coyotes.
* 2022: The Flyers sign winger Owen Tippett to a two-year contract extension.
