Quick Hits: January 13, 2023
1) The Flyers held an 11 AM practice on Friday in advance of heading to DC for the second half of a home-and-home set with the Washington Capitals on Saturday. The Flyers, who have won six of their last seven games, captured a 5-3 win over the Caps at the Wells Fargo Center on Wednesday.
The Flyers, unsurprisingly, stayed with the same line combinations:

2) In this week's "Friday Forecheck" column on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, I took an in-depth look at the reasons for Travis Konecny's remarkable offensive consistency this season, his current 10-game point streak (10g, 10a, 20 points) and the elite company he joined in recording even strength, shorthanded and power play goals in the same game on Wednesday. Only three other Flyers players have done that: Rick MacLeish, Bob Clarke and Mark Recchi (twice).
This week, we also discussed John Tortorella's decision to banish iPads for Flyers players on the bench and the timeliness of some of Carter Hart's saves last game (particularly his breakaway stop on Alex Ovechkin).

4) Phantoms Update: The Lehigh Valley Phantoms (16-13-4) will host the Bridgeport Islanders (14-4-7) on Friday night at the PPL Center in Allentown. The game is the back half of a home-and-home. The Phantoms earned a 3-1 road victory in Bridgeport on Wednesday. The Islanders are winless in their last 11 games.
