1) Flyers defenseman Phil Myers is one of the most recent arrivals to the team's Phase 2 workouts at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, arriving last Friday night and skating on Monday and Wednesday of this week so far. The player pronounced himself fully recovered from the right kneecap fracture he suffered back on March 7.
"I've been rehabbing while I was at home. I've been working hard and working out. I've just got to get back to skating now, because I hadn't skated much at home. I never needed surgery or anything, so it was a smooth recovery," Myers said on Wednesday to Flyers senior director of communications Zack Hill.
2) TODAY IN FLYERS HISTORY: JUNE 25
1998: The Flyers sign captain Eric Lindros to a one-year contract extension for $8.5 million. Along with Paul Kariya, he is the highest-paid player in the NHL at the time. 1999: The Atlanta Thrashers claim Jody Hull from the Flyers in the NHL Expansion Draft. Shortly thereafter, at the behest of Flyers head coach Roger Neilson, the Flyers purchase Hull's contract back from the Thrashers. 2000: The Flyers trade veteran goaltender John Vanbiesbrouck to the New York Islanders in exchange for a 2000 fourth-round pick (later flipped in a deal with the Nashville Predators). The Flyers also trade to their own fourth-round pick to Tampa Bay in exchange for a pair of sixth-round picks and a ninth-round pick. Philadelphia uses one of the sixth-round picks on 29-year-old Czech goaltender Roman Cechmanek, 2002: The Flyers sign former first-round pick Jeff Woywitka to an NHL entry-level contract. 2010: Days after acquiring the negotiating rights to impending unrestricted free agent defenseman Dan Hamhuis from the Nashville Predators, the Flyers realize they will also be unable to sign the player (who has his mind made up to sign with the Vancouver Canucks). They trade Hamhuis' negotiating rights to the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 2011 third-round pick (later traded to Phoenix in the Ilya Bryzgalov rights trade). Pittsburgh is equally unable to convince Hamhuis to sign. 3) Three Flyers Alumni share June 25th birthdays: Joe Paterson (1960), Bill Armstrong (1966), Glen Metropolit (1974).
