Quick Hits: July 14, 2023
1) The Flyers reached an agreement on Thursday with restricted free agent winger Olle Lycksell for a two-year, two-way contract. In 2023-24, Lycksell will make the NHL minimum salary ($775,000) if he plays with the Flyers. At the AHL level, Lycksell's salary will bump up from the $70,000 he made last season to $200,000. In year two of the contract, Lycksell will make $800,000 at the NHL level or $250,000 in the AHL. The average annual value (cap hit) of the deal is $787,500 at the NHL level.
2) The Lycksell signing leaves Morgan Frost as the Flyers' lone remaining restricted free agent this offseason. Reportedly, the two sides have discussed a couple of different options in terms of contract length.
3) Flyers right winger Cam Atkinson spoke with NHL.com to update his recovery from neck surgery last season. The 34-year-old forward expects to participate in training camp and be in the lineup on opening night. To read the article, click here.
4) July 14 Flyers Alumni birthday: Two-stint defenseman Kevin "Kato" McCarthy, later a Flyers assistant coach under Peter Laviolette, was born on July 14, 1957. Center Mark Freer was born July 14, 1955.
