Quick Hits: Four Assigned to AHL, Phantoms, McCauley, Minton, Giroux (Flyers)

Quick Hits: Feb. 3, 2022

1) The Flyers announced on Wednesday that they have sent Morgan Frost, Cam York, Isaac Ratcliffe and Jackson Cates to the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms during the NHL's All-Star Break. Several are likely to return to the NHL team as soon as the schedule resumes next week. The Phantoms will host the Providence Bruins on Friday and then visit the Hartford Wolf Pack the next night.

2) The Phantoms lost, 4-1, on the road to the Bridgeport Islanders on Wednesday morning (10:30 a.m. start time). The Phantoms were outplayed for the majority of the game after controlling the early minutes of the third period. A Nick Lappin deflection goal off a Logan Day point shot in the second period temporarily narrowed a two-goal deficit to 2-1 and ended up being Lehigh Valley's only tally of the game. Trailing 3-1 in the third period, the Phantoms made a push for about five minutes until the Islanders struck again to put a three-goal stranglehold on the game. Felix Sandström stopped 24 of 28 shots in a losing cause.

3) On Thursday, the Flyers officially announced two internal promotions on the hockey side of the organization. Alyn McCauley has been promoted from pro scout to the position of Director of Player Personnel. Tom Minton has been promoted from Director of Hockey Information (Analytics) to Director of Hockey Operations.

The 32-year-old Minton is a Media native who was initially hired by Chuck Fletcher for the Minnesota Wild and then came back to his home area after Fletcher became the Flyers' general manager. Former NHL player McCauley, age 44, scouted at the pro level for the LA Kings during the Dean Lombardi era for six years before former Flyers general manager Ron Hextall and former assistant general manager Chris Pryor brought him the Flyers as a pro scout in 2017-18.

4) On PhiladelphiaFlyers.com, we take a look at each of Claude Giroux's seven selections to the NHL All-Star Game. This year, he will captain Team Metro following Alex Ovechkin's announcement that he will not be participating in the event. With seven selections apiece, Giroux and Bill Barber trail only Bobby Clarke (10 selections) for the most participations in the NHL All-Star representing the Flyers.
