2) Today in Flyers History: July 25

* 1984: The Flyers signed free agent defenseman Ed Hospodar. He'd be dealt to the Minnesota North Stars for Bo Berglund and Dave Richter in Nov. 1985 and then return to the Flyers as a free agent again during the 1986 offseason.

* 1988: The Flyers acquired young defenseman Terry Carkner in a trade with the Quebec Nordiques. In return, the Flyers sent Greg Smyth and a 1989 third-round pick (John Tanner) to Quebec. In his first season as a Flyer, Carkner produced a 43-point regular season (11g, 32a) in addition to bringing toughness and physical play (149 penalty minutes). He also had a strong playoff run as the Flyers unexpectedly made a run to game six of the Wales Conference Final. The rest of Carkner's tenure in Philadelphia (which ran through 1992-93) coincided with the dark period that saw the team miss the playoffs for five straight years. Carkner was a solid defenseman on a mostly shallow blueline in those years. In total, Carkner played 367 regular season games (132 points, 867 PIM) and 19 playoff games as a Flyer. On Oct 5, 1993, general manager Russ Farwell dealt Carkner to the Detroit Red Wings in a deal for offensive defenseman Yves Racine.

* 2000: The Flyers signed defenseman Andy Delmore to a two-year contract extension.

* 2016: The Flyers avoided an impending arbitration hearing with Brayden Schenn by agreeing to a new four-year, $20.5 million contract. He'd be traded to the St. Louis Blues the next summer.
