Final Score: Blue Jackets 7 – Islanders 0
Game Summary
Someone forgot to mention to the Blue Jackets that teams coming off their bye-weeks have tended to struggle in their first game back. The Jackets came out flying in the first, scoring their first goal before New York could even get a shot. The Jackets kept piling it on from there on route to a 7-0 rout.
The new lines were clicking right away. The third line, now with Markus Hannikainen had a great hard working shift, that lead to this Jack Johnson goal.

Johnson puts it’s a great spot for Hanikainen to tip it but he misses it and it ends up bouncing off of Nick Leddy and going in. Hanikainen missed out on the goal but picked up the secondary assist, his first assist in the NHL. The other assist went to David Savard, his 100th career NHL point.
That goal sparked the Islanders, but they were unable to beat Joonas Korpisalo. Korpisalo got the start over Sergei Bobrovsky, as Korpisalo played during the bye week for Cleveland, and the Jackets wanted to save Bobrovsky for the Rangers game tonight. Boone Jenner got the Jackets second goal, in the most Boone Jenner way possible.

Jenner also picked up an assist on Josh Anderson’s first goal of the game.

Anderson has a real underrated shot. He doesn’t have the hardest shot but it’s heavy. He has great accuracy on it, as you can see on this goal. He just snipes it top corner.

Also scoring twice in the game was Nick Foligno. He was back on the top line alongside Alexander Wennberg and Oliver Bjorkstrand and they did not miss a beat.

This has to be one of the nicest goals scored by the Jackets this season. Wennberg makes a pass so hard it’s basically a shot. Foligno is not only able to stop it he makes a filthy move to beat Thomas Greiss. Foligno was the beneficiary of some great passes all night, on his second goal Savard set him up with an alley-oop type of pass.

Foligno makes another good move in tight to score this goal. He had the hands going.
Savard after dishing out that assist decided to get into the fun as well and scored, giving him his first three point night of his career.
