Post Battle #26 vs. the New York Islanders (Blue Jackets)

Final Score: Blue Jackets 6 – Islanders 2

Game Summary

The Jackets took some time to find themselves in this game. They had a very sloppy first period and early on it looked like this was going the way of the Detroit game. Sergei Bobrovsky did not look strong in the period, letting in a very soft first goal. Sam Gagner’s pass was deflected and it popped up to Bobrovsky who somehow missed it.

To the Blue Jackets credit, they as well as Bobrovsky, rebounded from the slow start. They took over the second period and then exploded for four goals in the third period. It’s been really exciting to watch this team make intermission adjustments. It hasn’t mattered how they have started games they always seem to finish strong and up the pressure in the third period.

Cam Atkinson continues to be on fire, leading the Blue Jackets offense. He had another multi-point game, his third in a row. He assisted on Jack Johnson’s first period goal. Johnson got the puck at the point and absolutely ripped it.

Johnson has much improved this season. He’s been playing fewer minutes against easier competition and has thrived. He's been close to a break-even possession player after being dismal in that regard the past two seasons. He’s not putting up the points, just seven on the season, though he did have two in this game and four in his last five games. He assisted on Cam Atkinson’s goal with a very strong breakout pass, taking advantage of the Isles line change and sending Atkinson in on a breakaway.

Lukas Sedlak followed Atkinson’s lead and continued his hot play. After scoring his first NHL goal on Friday he quickly followed it up by scoring again in this one. This goal was very similar to his first. He got himself to the front of the net and was in a perfect spot to tap in a rebound.

Nick Foligno was still under the weather and missed his second game in a row. Oliver Bjorkstrand took his spot in the line-up and picked up his first point of the season, assisting on Brandon Saad’s goal.
