Game Summary
For two and half periods this was a fantastic hockey game. The Jackets, as per usual started out slow, they had just four shots in the opening frame, while allowing 10. Sergei Bobrovsky however was played very well and made some big saves. That helped the Jackets get their feet under them and they took over the game from the second period on.

The Jackets scored twice in the second, on goals from Artemi Panarin and Josh Anderson.

In any other game, Panarin scoring for the first time in 11 games, and Anderson leading the team with six goals would be the big story of the game. Through two periods it was, but then the third happened.
The Rangers scored four goals in the third, three on the power play and an empty-netter. John Tortorella was understandably very upset post game.

The penalties were the difference in the game. The Jackets took three offensive zone penalties in the third period and the Rangers scored on each power play. The Zac Dalpe penalty had to be the worst of the three. Dalpe was on the receiving end of a big, but clean hit. He got up and elbowed the Rangers player right in the head in front of the ref. It wasn’t a malicious elbow but it was still an elbow and the refs have to call that. For someone who doesn’t play every game those kinds of mental errors should not happen. I can’t imagine he sees the ice again anytime soon.
The penalties were bad on their own, but the penalty kill was no better. It can be tough when you have to kill off a bunch of penalties in one period, but they looked discombobulated.

The Jackets have no time to dwell on that loss; they are right back at it tonight, as they welcome Ryan Johansen, Scott Hartnell and the Nashville Predators to Nationwide Arena.
