Playoffs Hang in the Balance as Coyotes Lose Again (Coyotes)

Part 1 El Coyote

The Coyotes went into their game last night hoping to tie the Jets, but instead they let the proverbial four point game get away from them.

They jumped out to a 2-0 lead, and then sat back as the Jets scored four in a row.

The Jets are my kind of team. Like the Leafs, whose 4th best weapon is the 30 goal scoring William Nylander, the Jets have Nick Ehlers as their 4th best offensive option, making them one of the best teams in the league to watch.

Their goalie is insane, might win the Vezina, maybe even the Hart (or at least maybe get some consideration) and I honestly think if they had even one Morgan Rielly type guy on the back end (and maybe a better coach) they could be one of the league's best teams.

The game was good (other than the result). There was a big fight (Crouse got dusted) and a bunch of sweet goals.

Unfortunately, the Coyotes always lose if they don't win 2-1, so what can you do?

The Coyotes need a season saving winning streak in the worst way.

They playoffs are fading.

Part II

The Beatles are the most overrated band ever.

Unless you count the Rolling Stones or Cream.

In fact, anything with Eric Clapton is garbage. The Classic Rock Cannon is the absolute worst. (David Bowie, Neil Young and Bob Dylan excepted, it goes without saying).

I'd rather hear Smashmouth than CCR, and I think anything involving any of the interchangeable one word bands that sound like or remind you of Foreigner should all be banished from the earth.

Zeppelin, Floyd, Sabbath, or anything that sounds like Zeppelin, Floyd or Sabbath, are all respectable bands that I hope I can avoid in the future.

There is lots of good music from this time period, but the reverence for, and adherence to the GREATNESS of these once relevant cultural touchstones is a continuing fascination for me.

Perhaps if I hadn't been subject to 30 years of uncritical worship for Classic Rock as the Ultimate Art Form, and if those purveyors had perhaps deigned to play more than three or four songs from each artist, I might yet enjoy them today.

Especially in the light of their being no contemporary comparable. Used to be, everyone, more or less, had heard and watched and listened to the same things. We shared a culture.

Today, everything is hyper specific to our own tastes. There are few cultural touchstones and even fewer good artists that make their way into popular culture.

Overplaying "Time" "Money" and "Wish You Were Here" doesn't change the glaringly obvious fact that the Pink Floyd is an unusually high-brow, artistic, daring and weird band to be so popular.

In our world, where one company owns all the radio stations, and people consume only content they are preconditioned to love, there are no challenging, interesting popular artists, let alone interesting cultural or intellectual discussions about them.

The best you can do is find some small corner of the internet and preach to people who already agree with you.

So In retrospect, perhaps Classic Rock Isn't all bad.

If someone was smart, they'd start a Classic Rock Radio Station that only played the 4th through 8th best songs of all the classic artists.

And if the Coyotes are smart, they will make the playoffs.
