The Pittsburgh Penguins have made a roster move today. It wasn't a trade, but it could be a precursor to one

I have been fairly confident this year that at some point the Penguins would move on from Eric Fehr. He made a lot of sense at the time of the signing, but it hasn't quite worked out. Whether it was recovering from injury or the team dramatically changing to an all speed lineup he was left behind. You can see the his pre Pittsburgh sample was good and since then not so much
His 2M cap hit became an overpayment because of the available WBS players that are capable of replacing him.
I wouldn't be all that surprised if the team had been shopping him, but couldn't find a suitor. By sending Eric Fehr to the waiver wire the team may be able to clear his 2M cap hit if they are lucky. If Fehr gets sent to the AHL 1,050,000 would still count against the cap according to Cap Friendly's Arm Chair GM app.
This could be the team just doing their due diligence to create cap space in advance. Or perhaps the Penguins are closing in on yet another deadline deal.
