Ok. It is early, but already Alex Ovechkin has netted 9 goals in only 5 games. And it feels like more than just a hot start. With Ovechkin we have seen hot streaks before...but this one feels different somehow...Maybe it's the extra freedom he seems to be getting on the ice...but could we be in for something truly special this year? Some record setting season? To me it sure feels that way...
What say you?
We are also seeing some insane numbers when it comes to points/per/game in the NHL...
Last year we ended with only 1 player averaging over 1.20 points per game...McDavid at 1.22... Beyond that only 5 players averaging over 1.10 points per game, and ONLY 11 at a point per game or more..
Right now?
We have three players at 2.0. and any guesses how many players are averaging over 1.20?
I know its early, but remember ONLY McDavid last year ended the season at over 1.20...
Currently, we have 53 players averaging over 1.20 in the NHL...
So it's early in the season right?
Of course, and these numbers will shrink dramatically. However last year, the same amount of days into the season we had only 1 player over 2.0, and 9 players over 1.20
So...
Players with over 1.2 points per game ten days into the season...
2016-17: 9 2017-18: 54
Why do you think this is?
My theory is the crack down on slashing...I believe with players not as afraid to get whacked they are skating with more authority and confidence and going to the net...
Your theories?
