The Capitals played two good periods last night against the Panthers and it was enough for a 4-2 victory. But no one really cares about a Washington vs Florida match on a Thursday at the end of January.
Not that it didn't have it's moments, but at this point, teams are coasting into the all-star break and a week off, and we're getting to that part of the schedule where most teams know what they are, the season's novelty is worn off and we're all looking forward to the trade deadline and the playoffs.
The best part of last night's game, by far, was Ovechkin scoring his 500th assist, becoming just the 43rd player to have both 500 goals and 500 assists. (According to sportsnet st.
What I found even crazier, was learning that Ovechkin was only the fourth active to have it (Jagr, Hossa and Marleau). I guess I didn't even realize he'd been in the NHL that long.
The Capitals enter the All Star Game with a six point lead on the Blue Jackets.
