There is no doubt that yesterday's outdoor WJC game in Buffalo between Team Canada and Team USA was a massive financial success. Was it a hockey success? It seems the reviews are very mixed.
From my standpoint, short tournament or not, I thought it was fantastic. The snowy, blustery conditions were reminiscent of the NHL's first Winter Classic between Pittsburgh and Buffalo, and I think the fact the WJC game actually meant a bit more than a midseason game in an 82-game NHL schedule made it all the better. Keep this in mind: both Team USA and Team Canada were in the same boat with the conditions outside. Also, it wasn't a medal round game. Both teams are going to make the medal round regardless of the shootout outcome yesterday.
