For the latest Leafs updates or Follow @mikeinbuffalo on Twitter The Toronto Maple Leafs open the 2019-20 regular season against the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Arena on Wednesday with a number of new faces and a lot of expectations, but the focus leading up to the home opener is the naming of the club’s 25th team captain, which head coach Mike Babcock indicated on Tuesday would be revealed at some point before the game. “It will be really special for the fan base. I think our whole group, we want to feed off (the excitement).… John Tavares said. “It’s a very special recognition and honor to get from the organization, your teammates and everyone that put a lot of faith and belief in you.… Auston Matthews and Morgan Rielly indicated that a small group of players were informed of the choice, but did not provide any hint on how and when the decision will be announced. While the “C… has some importance, the whole naming situation has been more of a distraction the last week and something the club should have clarified in advance of the start of the season.
