Another dreadful home loss this time they allowed 5 goals plus an empty net tally.
The Wild seemed like they trailed the game by one goal for most of the night. The tipping point came when Joel Eriksson Ek took an offensive zone penalty that led to Nathan MacKinnon's powerplay goal to seal it for the Avs. Most troubling about that sequence was the Wild appeared to have the Avalanche on the ropes as they were the team chasing the puck in their own zone as the Wild cycled the puck down low.
Throw in the suspect goaltending and the Wild season opening week has been an absolute disaster.
It is not totally broken, however Dean Evason needs to get his team refocused and pulling in the same direction. Glimpses of the Wild we have seen over the last few seasons are there, but only for short periods of time.
This could in the long run be a good thing for the Wild to face adversity early on and have to work their way out of it as they mature together.
It is a long season, but teams that dig big holes early make it very difficult on themselves.
