Buffalo Sabres GM Kevyn Adams clarified today that Matthew Tkachuk was not involved in the tabled offer for Jack Eichel from the Calgary Flames.
Obviously, that’s quite the relief to Flames fans. It’s not good to have a trade offer leaked involving core players. Most Flames fans would like to see Tkachuk signed long term. Many would argue that they would rather have a healthy Matthew Tkachuk than the big injury question mark that is elite center Jack Eichel. Let alone the picks and prospects involved in the rumoured offer that Kevin Weekes reported yesterday.
One has to wonder what the offer was. There aren’t many comparables to Alex Tuch on the Calgary Flames. In terms of value maybe Noah Hanifin. Maybe Rasmus Andersson. Perhaps even Sean Monahan if the Flames offer included an extra first.
We might never find out and maybe that’s for the best.
