The Coyotes made NHL history by hiring Xavier Gutierrez, the NHL's first Latino President.
And while the team should be applauded for such a move, it is concerning that the first thing Gutierrez - obviously at the behest of the owner - talked about was a new arena.
Now, clearly the Coyotes original idea to build an arena in Glendale was idiotic, but the fact remains you've got a 100 million dollar, state of the art arena, and wanting to build a new one is wasteful and disgusting.
If the Coyotes have a new arena, they can be more profitable and they can be a better run, more successful team - that is without dispute.
But even so, the fact that they already have a fairly new, perfectly good arena just sums up the stupidity and greed of professional sports.
If billionaire owner Alex Meruelo wants to pay for the arena himself, or find private funds to do so, it will still be wasteful, but that is his prerogative.
However, pro sports teams almost always try to trick the ignorant citizens of their town into paying for it. The Coyotes already have a tax payer funded arena, and have been trying to get another one for years.
Pro sports arenas always cost tax payers money and they never get it back. They are bad investments and there are no good reasons why a city council should ever allow it to happen.
If the Coyotes truly want to be a progressive organization, they should start by finding an alternative solution.
Trying to get tax payers to pay for arenas is immoral and wrong on every level.

Yesterday Niklas Hjalmarsson came in as the 18th best Coyotes player of all-time, and today I name Nick Schmaltz the 17th best player.
If not for the Coyotes moribund power-play, Nick Schmaltz may have scored a lot more than 45 points in 70 games this year.
While those totals are nothing to sneeze at, Schmaltz actually scored at a rate of 2.15 points per 60, which is solid first line production and the highest on the team, including Taylor Hall.
With 31 5v5 points, Schmaltz outscored Hall, Gaudreau, Kopitar and Forsberg at 5v5 this year.
Despite also posting the highest scoring rate per minute on the Power Play, Schmaltz was sixth on the Coyotes in power play TOI.
Despite being the teams highest scoring player, Schmaltz was sixth among forwards in 5v5 ice time per game.
In every stat across the board (Corsi, Shot, xgoals percentages etc.) Schmaltz was a positive relative to his team.
He's only played parts of two shortened season with the Coyotes, but he's arguably their best current player that isn't Taylor Hall or a goalie.
If only the coach didn't appear to hate him.
He makes this list this high for potential, and to point out how bad the list truly is.

Coming in at #17 and possibly still ranked too low, is the Tom Cruise masterpiece Live.Die.Repeat. (Also known with the idiotic title The Edge of Tomorrow).
This movie, from 2014, is the best Tom Cuise movie, and that is saying a lot.
There is really not too much to say here, cause this blog is getting long, but this is clearly a classic movie, and once you could watch once every couple of months and not get bored.
