The Penguins won their second straight Cup last season without their top defenseman and are in desperate need of adding depth up front after losing center Nick Bonino to Nashville, Chris Kunitz to Tampa Bay and veteran Matt Cullen to Minnesota via free agency . As with the possibility of Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Drew Doughty or Erik Karlsson becoming available over the next 18 months, the Toronto Maple Leafs would have to at least consider the positives and negatives of acquiring a defenseman with Letang’s resume.
