The Toronto Maple Leafs were able to finish off the final game of their three-game Western road swing on a winning note, as Mitch Marner registered his 400th career point in a 6-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken at the Climate Pledge Arena on Monday.
Marner had a goal and two assists, Alex Kerfoot, Michael Bunting, Ondrej Kase, David Kampf, and Jake Muzzin scored for Toronto, the club scored twice on the power play, once while short-handed, and Jack Campbell made 23 saves for his 22nd victory of the season.
“I thought we were elite on special teams. I thought we had a real potential advantage coming into the game tonight and it played out that way.… Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe said after the game. “The plan put forth by (assistant coaches) Spencer (Carbery) and Dean (Chynoweth) on both the power play and the penalty kill, and the execution of the players was high-level today, especially on the power play. The win moved the Leafs to within three points of Tampa and four of Florida in the Atlantic Division, as they return home to face the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday and St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
The welcome news is that the province of Ontario has loosened its attendance restrictions and beginning on Thursday the capacity will be increased to 50% (roughly 9,500), which will affect four home games (Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Minnesota on 2/24 and Detroit on 2/26.
There are also indications that the return to 100% capacity may be moved up from March 14 to March 1, which will allow full attendance for the final 13 home games of the regular season and playoffs.
