The Toronto Maple Leafs and forward Mitch Marner have come to terms on a six-year deal.
Marner, the most prized restricted free agent of the 2019 class, had 26 goals and 94 points in 82 games for the Maple Leafs last year. The No. 4 overall pick in 2015, Marner has 67 goals and 224 points in 241 NHL games, all with the Maple Leafs.
The deal will come with an AAV just under $11 million per season.
The Leafs are our first team with three guys making over $10M each....pretty much $11... Their combined cap hit is around $33.5 million. Remember when the NHL missed a season 15 years ago and came back with a Salary Cap around $5 above that? the Cap in 2005 was $39M for the ENTIRE team.
Is Marner worth it? Can three $11M players on the same team work? Is this really a benchmark for Point and Rantanen?
more to come....let the floodgates open
