It was a busy day for the Toronto Maple Leafs on the transaction list, as the club sent defenseman Martin Marincin to the AHL Toronto Marlies and recalled rookie Calle Rosen.
The 25-year-old Marincin cleared waivers on Friday and will likely play for the Leafs AHL affiliate in their home opener against the Utica Comets at Ricoh Coliseum on Saturday. Rosen, who battled with Andreas Borgman and Travis Dermott for the sixth spot on the Leafs blueline, skated on the third pairing with Connor Carrick at the Leafs practice facility on Friday and could make his NHL debut against the New York Rangers at Air Canada Centre on Saturday.
Borgman skated with Roman Polak, whose chances of earning an NHL contract have increased with demotion of Marincin and two inexperienced blueliners in Borgman and Rosen rotating in and out of the lineup.
The Leafs also improved their organization's goaltending depth with the acquisition of goaltender Calvin Pickard from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for minor league forward Tobias Lindberg and a 2018 sixth round pick.

The native of Moncton, New Brunswick cleared waivers on Friday and has been assigned to the AHL Toronto Marlies, where he will likely split time with either Garret Sparks or Kasimir Kaskisuo. Lindberg was part of the Dion Phaneuf deal in February 2016 and appeared in six games with the Leafs after the trade, but spent most of his time with the Marlies, registering 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists) in 66 AHL games.
