One trait that was apparent with Brad Treliving during his stint in Calgary was his preference for big defensemen who play with an edge, like Eric Gudbranson and Nikita Zadorov. The Toronto Maple Leafs made an addition on Monday that fit Treliving’s tendencies, as the club signed defenseman Simon Benoit to a one-year, $775,000 one-way contract.
The Leafs appear to be augmenting their lineup to be more physical, with the additions of Tyler Bertuzzi and Ryan Reaves up front. Benoit has some experience and may be a blueliner that Toronto believes can clear waivers and be stored in the American Hockey League for depth.
