After some widespread rumors on Wednesday that the sudden departure of Chris Kreider from the ice against Washington meant the winger was being traded, the New York Rangers reported this morning that the forward is sidelined indefinitely with a spontaneous blood clot in his right arm.
Sportsnet’s John Shannon indicated that Kreider’s arm felt strange and got worse after the first period and that they sent him to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
There were other key injuries on the first day back from the Christmas break. Islanders defenseman Johnny Boychuk suffered a lower body injury in a win over Buffalo. The veteran blueliner is out week-to-week and has been placed on injured reserve. That puts the Isles down two defensemen with Calvin De Haan out indefinitely, so that may have Garth Snow looking for blueline help.
Winnipeg lost center Mark Scheifele in their win over Edmonton to an upper body injury and the report on Thursday indicates that he could miss up to two months.
