The Los Angeles Kings picked up their fourth straight win last night, defeating the Detroit Red Wings 4-3.

Los Angeles then extended their lead in the second period, with Sean Durzi somehow getting a puck through Nedeljkovic at the side of the net, just as a power play expired. Durzi wasn’t done there, as later in the frame, he wired a shot through traffic on yet another power play, putting the Kings up 4-1 through 40 minutes.
Dylan Larkin scored on another man advantage for Detroit early in the third period though, cutting the lead to two. Then after the Red Wings outshot the Kings through the third period, Filip Hronek made things interesting with two minutes to go, scoring off a point shot. However, the Kings managed to hang on after that, picking up a 4-3 win.
With the win, the Kings swept their four-game homestand, which has shot them up the Pacific Division standings.
Special teams obviously played a huge role in the game as well, with four of the seven goals scored on the power play. The Kings went 2-for-3 (but really almost 3-for-3, as Durzi’s first goal was scored just after a man advantage expired) and it’s key to see the team’s power play capitalizing.
It was also yet another strong defensive effort for the Kings, who have made pretty huge strides towards eliminating the frequent lapses. They allowed just 21 shots and only 10 through the first two periods.
On another note, the reverse retro jerseys looked great on ice.
Brendan Lemieux was placed on injured reserve following the game, while Brandt Clarke has also been assigned to the AHL on a conditioning stint (as he sits at nine NHL games, one short of the first year of his entry-level contract being burned).
The Kings will be back in action tomorrow against the Calgary Flames, as they begin a string of four road games in just six days.
