The Los Angeles Kings picked up a win in their first game of a back-to-back set, defeating the Buffalo Sabres 3-0 today.

The Kings picked up where they left off in the second period, limiting the Sabres to just five shots in the frame. Andreas Athanashiou opened the scoring, taking a stretch pass from Mikey Andersen and going down ice on a rush, roofing a shot past Tokarski to give the Kings the lead after 40 minutes.
Los Angeles continued to keep the play out of their end in the final frame, once again limiting Buffalo to just five shots in the period. Then after the Sabres pulled their goalie but the Kings won the board battles late, Athanasiou picked up an empty net goal for his second of the game, before Dustin Brown added another empty netter, securing a 3-0 win for the Kings.
Even if the Kings only managed to get one before the empty netters, this was a really positive performance. They completely limited chances for the Sabres with a great defensive effort, giving up 19 shots total and only 10 in the back 40 minutes.
A concerning piece of news was that Viktor Arvidsson left the game with an injury and didn’t return. We’ll have to wait and see what the severity of the injury is.
Regardless, it was a key win for the Kings to stay competitive in the Pacific Division and Western Conference. Los Angeles is back in action tomorrow against the Boston Bruins.
