How rare was the Erik Karlsson acquisition? It has only happened two other times in the history of the NHL. Erik Karlsson is the third Norris Trophy winner to find himself on a different team the very next year after winning the award. Doug Harvey did this way back in 1960-61 and 1961-62 when he won the Norris in back to back years for Montreal and New York. Scott Niedermayer won the Norris in 2003-04 before the complete NHL lockout of the 2004-05 season. When play resumed he was suiting up with his brother in Anaheim.
It isn’t often you can acquire talent like this and the Penguins went out and made it happen. The front office deserves all the praise they’ve gotten for making it happen. Including some potentially under the radar moves
The Penguins appeared to have uncovered every stone (except Mark) in their successful attempt to acquire Erik Karlsson. The new Penguins blue liner spoke to the Pittsburgh media for the first time on Wednesday and revealed some of his personal connections to the team.
Karlsson: "It's going to be nice to not have to step into a locker room where you don't really know anyone. I think that's going to be a little bit of a comfort, especially early on, just to get a grasp on how things really work."
