History was made in south Florida on Tuesday night.
Then man whose career career seemingly will never end, tied for second overall all-time.
With three assists against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night Jaromir Jagr tied Mark Messier for second place on the NHL’s all-time points list. Jagr has devoured Sabres goalies over the years with 107 points in 89 games played against Buffalo.
Jagr now has 1,887 career NHL points, which he has achieved in 94 fewer games than Messier did.
Jagr and Messier trail Wayne Gretzky by a whopping 970 points.
Jagr, 44, will take over second place by himself with his next goal or assist.
Jagr started this season slowly but has scored 13 points in his last 16 games.
Messier owned the second place points position for 13 years. He surpassed Gordie Howe with his 1,851st point on December 29, 2003 during his final season with the New York Rangers.
Imagine if Jagr's 146 points in three seasons playing in KHL counted towards his NHL point totals. Jagr played in the KHL from 2008 to 2011. He also scored 67 points in European hockey leagues during the lockout-canceled 2004-05 season and a combined 68 points in Europe during the lockouts that shortened the 1994-95 and 2012-13 seasons.
