The Islanders look to erase the last few days of 2017 as they open up 2018 against the Boston Bruins. Barclays Center has been a tough place to play for most opponents, it has not been the case for the Bruins, who are 3-0-0 in Brooklyn.
This will be a tough one for the Isles as the Bruins are red hot, going 6-0-1 in their last seven games.
Tanner Fritz will make his NHL debut tonight and wear number 56. The 26-year-old is tied for fourth in the AHL 35 points. Fritz had to work for everything in his professional career. He was undrafted, signed an ECHL deal and worked his way towards an NHL deal. The speedy Fritz will not take any shifts off, plays a strong two-way game and has added scoring to his game. He clearly earned this promotion and hopefully breathe a little life into the team.
To make room for Fritz, both Anthony Beauvillier and Steve Bernier were sent to Bridgeport. The team still has an open roster spot, whether a trade is in the works remains to be seen.
Josh Bailey was named the "Second Star for December". He scored the lone goal in Denver Sunday night and extended his point streak to 11 games. He has 19 points (6G, 13A) on his career-long streak, which is also the longest active streak in the NHL.
Jaroslav Halak will make his fifth straight start. Tuukka Rask will start for the Bruins. Rask was named the "First Star for December", as he went 9-0-1 with a 1.22 GAA and .955 save pct.
