Hurricanes sign Jack Roslovic (Hurricanes)

The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that they’ve signed forward Jack Roslovic to a one-year contract, which carries a $2.8 million cap hit.

The forward is a good signing for Carolina at fair value – my projection for Roslovic's deal at HockeyComparables.com was a one-year deal worth $3 million, so his $2.8 million cap hit is right in line with projections. He’s a great skater who can transport the puck up ice, and will be able to add a bit of secondary offense in the middle-six. Roslovic’s production has been fairly consistent from year-to-year, typically good for a pace of around 45 points per 82 games.

Still, similar to the free agency additions on the team's blue line in Shayne Gostisbehere and Sean Walker, Roslovic is another piece who doesn’t quite replicate the value of the players he’s replacing. While he’s a good add for the contract (which carries virtually no risk as a one-year deal) it’s still not necessarily a signing that's going to set Carolina up to be as strong as last season.
