The Carolina Hurricanes finalized their roster today, which features 12 forwards, seven defensemen and two goalies.
There really weren’t any surprises, other than perhaps the fact the Hurricanes opted for a 21-man roster rather than a 23-man roster.
In net, the Hurricanes kept both Frederik Andersen and Antti Raanta, while reassigning Pyotr Kochetkov to the AHL, where he’ll play with the Syracuse Crunch.
On the blue line, Carolina went with Jaccob Slavin, Brent Burns, Dmitry Orlov, Brady Skjei, Brett Pesce, Tony DeAngelo and Jalen Chatfield. As a result, both Caleb Jones and Dylan Coghlan were waived and will also head to the AHL, with Jones going to the Colorado Eagles, and Coghlan going to the Springfield Thunderbirds. Domenick Fensore will go to the ECHL.

The team had previously released Zach Aston-Reese and Kieffer Bellows from their professional tryout agreements. Felix Unger Sorum will also head to the SHL.
It’s pretty much the roster we expected, with the team maybe just carrying one less defenseman than anticipated. Overall though, no surprises.
The Hurricanes will open the season on Wednesday, when they host the Ottawa Senators.
