Hughes Out For Season, Injuries Starting Mount For Devils (Devils)

Why did it take so long?

The news came out during the game tonight that Jack Hughes has a low grade MCL sprain and will miss the rest of the season. Hughes, who was injured against the New York Islanders while avoiding Oliver Wahlstrom’s check, finishes the season with 26 goals and 30 assists, and zero penalty minutes in 49 games.

And the injuries do not stop there.

Nathan Bastian also was injured in the same game as Hughes. The Devils first power play unit that came tonight against the Rangers was Severson and Hamilton of defense with Hischier, Bratt, and Mercer as the forwards. Losing Bastian and Hughes is a big loss.

To make matter worse, Yegor Sharangovich did not come back after getting involved in a fight with Brayden Schneider. Sharangovich’s head looked pretty swollen before leaving the bench into the locker room. Jimmy Vesey had to be helped off of the ice while not putting any weight on his leg.

The month of April has been cruel to the Devils.
