Hockey Canada is heading into its final evaluation tournament in Switzerland, likely a final chance for players to prove themselves before Olympic training camp gets underway in February.
The oldest club tournament in the world, the Spengler Cup has been won by Canada’s National Men’s Team the last two years. Tournament's games will be played out in Davos from Dec. 26-31.
“The Spengler Cup allows us an opportunity to take another look at some players who’ve been part of earlier teams, as well as work with some new faces, just given how it aligns with other league schedules,… said Burke, who noted that eight of the 20 players selected come from either the NCAA or the American Hockey League (AHL). “Our goal remains to put together the best possible team to compete in PyeongChang in February. The roster is as follows:
Forwards: David Mclntyre, Mason Raymond, Curtis Hamilton, Jay McClement, P.A Parenteau, Nick Spaling, Jake Evans, Andrew Ebbet, Christian Thomas, Matt D'Agostini, Dylan Sikura. Defencemen: Brandon Hickey, Jeff Schultz, Cody Goloubef, Maxim Noreau, Jeremy Davies, Victory Bartley Goalies: Kevin Poulin and Barry Brust.
Team Canada opponents will be KHL's representative - Dinamo Riga and Teams from different European leagues such as HC Davos, HPK Hà„MEENLINNA, MOUNTFIELD HK and Team Switzerland.
Previous two-year champions will get underway on Dec. 26 against Mountfield HK at 2 p.m. ET. Games will be broadcasted live on TSN.
