Instant replay, is it good or bad?
Human nature always says "what if this" or "what if that" and now in every pro sport we have some sort of instant replay to fall back on to "supposedly" get the calls right.
But do they really, get the calls right in the end?
Let's look at the offside rewind after a good goal is scored in the NHL.
In nearly every case, the play is continuous and the missed offside call had no affect on the play once the puck entered the zone. The players did not slow down, the goaltender did not stop playing, nor did the attacking team do any of the above either.
The goal gets scored and the team that was scored upon, quickly goes to the video to check the to see if the zone entry was indeed clean.
Oh wait, it looks like on replay that the attacking team's player had his skate a fraction of an inch in the air, "I think", so no goal, off side is the call.
As a fan this is not how the league wants to sell it's game. These ticky-tack offside after the fact calls are ridiculous. This is not a one team over the other argument as every team has been on both sides of this equation.
My real argument is the offside review can only occur after a goal is scored in an effort to nullify a good goal.
So if the NHL linesmen, actually miss this many offside calls on zone entries, how many do the miss on zone keep ins? Oh, but those can't be reviewed, and the scoring chances that they may cause go by the wayside and can never be recovered.
I know that I can't be the only hockey fan that thinks this way.
