Grubauer starts, Francouz backup (Avalanche)

He’s ba-ack.

Philipp Grubauer will start in goal Tuesday when the Avalanche play in Calgary, the fourth game of the five-game trip.

Grubauer missed the past five games with a lower-body injury, though he has been taking part in recent practices. He last played Nov. 5 in Dallas, a 4-1 loss in which he made 34 saves.

Pavel Francouz will be the backup after missing most of the past three games with a head injury he sustained 31 seconds into last Tuesday’s trip-opening game in Winnipeg.

The Avalanche reassigned goalie Adam Werner to the Colorado Eagles, but goalie Antoine Bibeau remains with them for now.

Forward Logan O’Connor, who was recalled from the Eagles on Monday, will play against the Flames. Forward A.J. Greer also has been recalled.

Coach Jared Bednar told reporters Tuesday morning that center Pierre-Edouard Bellemare is ill and will be a game-time decision. Forward Tyson Jost will miss his second game because of an upper-body injury.
