Going for 4 wins in a row (Avalanche)

Can the Avalanche make it four wins in a row? That's the goal Sunday when they play the New York Islanders in Brooklyn.

Here are the GAME NOTES.

The Avalanche (8-5-0) opened their four-game road trip Saturday with a 5-4 shootout win in Philadelphia, which Mikko Rantanen secured when he scored against Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth.

The Avalanche last won four consecutive games Jan. 18-23, 2016 against Winnipeg, Buffalo, St. Louis and Dallas.

"There's definitely a different feeling, we've talked about that a lot," coach Jared Bednar said. "I hate to keep going back to last year because it is what it is and it's in the past. We're early in the season here and it's a long season. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

"I've said it before, the work has just begun, but I do like the way our guys are digging in and trying to build an identity and get more consistent in what we do."

The Avalanche didn't have a morning skate, so it wasn't known if Rocco Grimaldi or Matt Nieto would feel well enough to play after they missed Saturday's game because of illness.

Jonathan Bernier will start in goal. Semyon Varlamov made 33 saves against the Flyers.

The Avalanche got regulation goals from Rantanen, who has four in a three-game goal streak; Matt Duchene, his first in seven games; Nail Yakupov, his first in nine games; and Blake Comeau, who has one in two consecutive games.

Thomas Greiss is expected to be in goal for the Islanders (7-5-1), who are 4-0-1 at home.

The Avalanche will take a red-eye flight to Stockholm after the game for their games against Ottawa on Friday and Saturday.

Possible Avalanche lineup, depending on health issues:
