Glendening out at least a month

It looks as if the Detroit Red Wings can forget about seeing forward Luke Glendening on the ice until almost Groundhog Day. Glendening suffered a right hand injury, apparently while blocking an Andrew MacDonald shot in Wednesday’s 4-3 road loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. “Time-line wise it looks like it’s going to be a minimum of four weeks,… Wings coach Jeff Blashill told detroitredwings.com. “We’ll know more as we continue through, but right now, the time line looks like minimum of four weeks.… How much will the Wings miss Glendening? Let’s count the ways. Glendening leads the team in faceoff winning percentage at 59.4 percent. He leads all forwards on the team in blocked shots (38) and is second in hits (74). Glendening has skated a team-high two minutes and 40 seconds per game while the Wings are shorthanded and is tops on the team in faceoff percentage (55.6) and blocked shots (12) while on the penalty kill. “He really sacrifices his body out there blocking shots,… Wings center and Glendening linemate Frans Nielsen said. “He’s our best guy on the faceoffs, too. We’re going to miss him a lot, not only on the PK, but five-on-five, too.… It’s at the faceoff dot where Blashill wonders who will pick up the slack for Glendening’s excellent work. Dylan Larkin (52 percent) is the only other Detroit center who wins more faceoffs than he loses. “I was just looking at the stats,… Blashill said. “This is a tough one tomorrow. (Boston’s Patrice) Bergeron takes tons of faceoffs and he’s great and he’s right-handed and that’s a tough match for us. “That is an area where we’ll really miss Luke, especially the right dot, in your own end, PK and D zone. We’re going to have to dig in for sure, guys are going to have to be better at it. “I think Larks and Z Henrik Zetterberg (47 percent) have both worked real hard in getting better. I think Nielsen (45.3) still has a ways to go in that right dot, so he’s going to have to really dig in.… Bert Buzz Recalled from AHL Grand Rapids, Tyler Bertuzzi will play in Glendening’s spot in what Blashill terms his match-up line alongside Nielsen and Darren Helm. “Both Nielsen and Helmer like to play north-south and Bert has north-south in his game,… Blashill said. “Not that he can’t do other things, but he’s certainly a north-south type player. “I just thought it gives him a chance to get minutes. He won’t really spend much time on specialty teams tomorrow, so it’ll give him a chance to get some minutes without those specialty team minutes.… Boston Massacre As bad as Detroit’s record was in Philadelphia, it’s not much better in Beantown. The Wings haven’t won a regular-season game at Boston since Oct. 13, 2013, a 3-2 verdict. They are 0-5-1 in their last six games at TD Garden. Blashill wasn’t about to get obsessed by a history lesson, though. “Just like Philly, every game has a life of its own,… Blashill said. “There’s no reason why we couldn’t have went into Philly and won. We were in position to win the game, we’ve got to win it. “There’s no reason we can’t come in here and win. They’re a good team, it’s a good building, but there’s no reason.… The Bruins sit eight points ahead of the Wings for the third and final Atlantic Division playoff spot, and hold a game in hand on Detroit. “Those are the guys we’re chasing right now, so we don’t want to get too far behind, so it’s a huge game here,… Nielsen said.
