Free agent invites do fascinate me. Sometimes players who were sure that they would secure a new contract quickly into the summer season find themselves battling just to stay in the league. Occasionally, if nothing is offered, players will opt to try playing in Europe for a season and hope to raise their stock and stay relevant. Some find out that the industry moves quickly and didn’t know their NHL career was over until months after the fact.
