Picture this. Your favourite Oilers blogger sitting here, shirtless, sipping at hot bean water. It's the best day of the year (including my upcoming wedding)......It's Free Agency Day.
Free Agency officially kicks off shortly. At first it seemed like there would not be too many exciting options to look at but the wave of unqualified RFA's over the past couple days have greatly changed the landscape.
We know the Oilers are interested in Connor Brown and a couple other names like Teddy Blueger and Evan Rodrigues. The Oilers need depth on the RW as well as likely a 4th line centre.
Will we see any of those names signed today? I will update as we go!
OILERS TO SIGN NIETO
It is looking like Edmonton is signing left winger Matt Nieto to a two year deal. The 30 year old put up 12 goals in 81 games last season that was split between the Sharks and Avalanche. Two years seems high but if it's at league minimum on a contract that could be AHL bound than it should be an okay deal.
OILERS SIGN BROWN
This is a pain with Twitter down. Looks like Brown is an Oiler on a 1 x 4 million dollar deal. Here is the thing though, the deal is 775,000 with the remainder in bonuses. It only counts for 775k against the cap this season. If he hits his remaining bonuses that will go over onto the cap for next season.
Brown gives the Oilers some flexibility on the right side, hopefully as a top six forward and the ability to still make some adds to bolster the roster. A good move.
OILERS SIGN CAGGIULA Also looks like Caggiula is back with the Oilers. Another depth signing.
OILERS SIGN LANE PEDERSON
This is an intriguing one. Oilers ink Pederson to a two year deal worth 775k. Pederson hasn't managed to fully crack any NHL roster yet but he is a young player who could challenge for a fourth line centre spot or stay in the AHL as a top centre.
It's all about depth so far for the Oilers
