The streaks all came to a crashing halt as the Wild came up empty in Winnipeg last night. Gone is the 10 game unbeaten streak, and with it Kevin Fiala's 12 game point streak and Kirill Kaprizov's eight gamer as well.
However the bigger news coming from last night's loss is the fact that Marcus Foligno is going to have a hearing with the NHL for his knee to the face of Adam Lowry at the end of their second altercation.
That is very unlike Foligno, who has in past been one to not continue an altercation and even go out of his way to protect a defenseless opponent. However, that was not at all the case last night as Foligno was incensed by Lowry so much so that he took it over the top with a knee to the face of the Jets forward who was down and defenseless.
If the on ice officials had caught it I am certain that Foligno would not have finished the game but because it was in the midst of the two combatants being separated by the officials it was not so obvious.
We will have to wait and see what the league hands down but one has to think Foligno is going to miss some time and pay the price for his actions which were absolutely uncalled for.
As for the game itself, the Wild did not play poorly, and to be honest they controlled much of the offensive zone time. Their main issue last night appeared to be a case of trying to be too cute. They continually atrempted to make the perfect play rather than getting the puck to the net and generating off of second and third chances.
There were a few times where the Wild defense would make the smart play and get the puck through to the net from the point that created rebounds, yet the Wild forwards were nowhere to be found. The magic of the extra attacker also went absent, when Kaapo Kahkonen was pulled the Wild players on the ice went into their best mites on ice routine without the music.
That all was bound to happen though as the results could not keep going at the wildly insane pace they had when pulling the goalie. There are laws of averages and they do catch up with everyone, even the Wild (Tongue in cheek of course).
So now off for a few days before embarking on the last 40 games in 77 days.
