Wrapup: Flyers Close Preseason with 4-1 win in Boston
The Philadelphia Flyers finished their eight-game preseason schedule with a 4-3-1 record after earning a 4-1 road win over the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Saturday evening. For the third straight game, the Flyers endured one awful period (the second period, in this case) while playing better in the other two stanzas. The difference: This time, the Flyers got through their worst period unscathed.
Brian Elliott stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn the win in net. The Flyers got two goals from Michael Raffl, including a shorthanded go-ahead goal in the third period. Philly got one tally apiece from Taylor Leier (one goal, one assist) and Wayne Simmonds (one goal, one assist). Mikhail Vorobyev notched two assists to finish the preseason with a team-leading seven points (two goals, five assists) in seven games. Jori Lehterठalso had two assists.
Simmonds and Sean Couturier both played for the first and only time in the preseason.

Preseason Game 8: Flyers @ Bruins
The Philadelphia Flyers close out their 2018 preseason schedule on Saturday with a road tilt at TD Garden against the Boston Bruins. Game time is 5 p.m. EDT.
After this game, the Flyers will depart on Sunday for a team bonding trip and practice in Vale, Colorado before heading to Las Vegas for the regular season opener on Oct. 4. The Flyers' final roster cuts are likely to come on Sunday before the team leaves for Vale.
While still subject to change, it appears that both Sean Couturier (MCL rehab) and Wayne Simmonds (off-season groin surgery) will play in the preseason finale. There is a significant possibility that the top defensive pairing of Ivan Provorov and Shayne Gostisbehere will be held out of the game. Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol said after Thursday's game that finding combinations that work for the 2nd and third pairings are a top priority heading into the season. Brian Elliott is the likely starter in goal on Saturday.

Phantoms down Charlotte
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms earned a 4-2 preseason home win over the Charlotte Checkers at the PPL Center on Friday.. New Phantoms defenseman Zach Palmquist scored a goal and added an assist. Carsen Twarynski, Mike Vecchione and Connor Bunnaman also tallied for Lehigh Valley, while Nicolas Aube-Kubel had two assists. Tryout Phantoms goalie Jason Kasdorf stopped 32 of 34 shots, included a pair of breakaway saves.
