Fantasy Hockey – Top 30 Defense (blackhawks)

The hockey world is starting to wake up which has certainly got the interest level up league wide. Players are returning to their hockey cities to prime up for another grueling season of NHL hockey. As we see the remaining RFA’s sign their deals we will get a better idea of what the opening night lineups will look like. For the sakes of all the teams and fans waiting I hope they can all come to some sort of deal so no time is missed. It sucks for the fans and certainly from a fantasy hockey perspective.

I’ve put together a list of my top 30 defense and I left a gem for the end at rank 29.

It’s all about production from the blue line; not only five on five but being on the first power play unit is a key. Feel free to use my list as a start for your list and you can adjust it how you see it.

Top 30 Defense:

1. Brent Burns 2. Victor Hedman 3. Erik Karlsson 4. John Carlson 5. Morgan Rielly 6. John Klingberg 7. Torey Krug 8. Roman Josi 9. Keith Yandle 10. Seth Jones 11. Tyson Barrie 12. Erik Gustaffson 13. PK Subban 14. Rasmus Dahlin 15. Thomas Chabot 16. Oliver Ekman Larsson 17. Zach Werenski 18. Shea Weber 19. Mark Giordano 20. Matt Dumba 21. Kris Letang 22. Dustin Byfuglien 23. Alex Pietrangelo 24. Dougie Hamilton 25. Shayne Gostisbehere 26. Miro Heiskanen 27. Shea Theodore 28. Jacob Trouba 29. Cale Makar (rookie) 30. Drew Doughty

There will be some heads turned this season with the play of Cale Makar. Kids got stud written all over him. You will see some of the younger players slowly pushing out quality defense who was on this list year after year. Doughty for example just made the list at rank 30.

As good as I feel my lists are; it’s never a bad idea to use my list as well as other fantasy lists and help yourself decide which player you rank where. The first few rounds are pretty easy to pick yourself a quality player and as the rounds go it gets deeper and this is where you really need to be on the ball. Getting off to a quality start with your drafting is key to long season success.

Thanks for reading, next list will be my top 30 goaltenders.
