Face Swap Fail (washington face swap)

What were they thinking?

The social media team of the Washington Capitals really put their skate in their mouth on Saturday night.

On #CapsSociaNight the team solicited tweets from their loyal fans.

One such loyal Caps fan, Emily Longtin obliged and played along.

Emily uploaded a pic of she and her father at the Caps game.

Ah, how cute. Caps Twitter blew up when 5,535 fans retweeted Longtin's pic. Another 6.520 Caps fans liked the photo.

But what happened next was a horrifying and embarrassing exchange between Longtin and the Caps' social media team.

The idiot who was "running" Caps Twitteron Saturday night totally disrespected the fan and her father when he/she tweeted "Great faceswap" back at Longtin.

What faceswap?!!

Longtin was then forced to avert her eyes to the Capitals game on the ice to defend herself and her father against the ignorant comments made by the Caps social media team.

Over 5,100 people retweeted Longtin's explanation and another 9,400+ liked it.

Moments later, the Caps Twitter stooge attempted to save face, but the damage was already done. "

It's a joke, get it!!!"

What a knee slapper!!

Clearly, Longtin was none too impressed with the response of Caps twitter.

Rather than apologize for embarrassing the Caps fan, the team decied to force the "I was only kidding narrative". Bad look.

Longtin really bought the flimsy excuse made by the Caps social media team.

Then, the snark started flowing like Aunt Jane's famous Egg Nog and Rum cocktails.

I think Longtin and her father handled the matter like pros. At least they did on Twitter. I would love to have been the arm rest separating the daughter and father's seats iunside teh stadium. My guess is that there were a lot of WTF's and eye rolls eminating from The Longtin family as they nervously scrolled through Emily's Twitter timeline.

If I'm Caps owner Ted Leonsis, I'm calling the social media team into my office and reading them the riot act. It's not okay to insult the team's loyal paying customer base. It's not okay to just dismiss it as a "joke" and then allow Twitter to pile on the customer and her father.

If I'm Leonsis, I'm calling Emily Longtin myself and offering her a heartfelt apology for the snark and sopohomoric behavior foisted upon her by the Caps social media team Then, I'm offering a fully stocked owner's suite to he Longtin family for a future Caps game. Food, drink, Caps swag, and souvenirs for 25 people. Then, I'm sending the family down to meet Alex Ovechkin in the Caps room after the game.

Am I irked at the Buffalo Sabres for their performance of "Silent Night" in Raleigh on Saturday?

No.

The Sabres and Canes both played games on Friday night. There was zero energy on either team's bench on Saturday night. From my untrained eye, it looked like 6,000 attended the game in Raleigh, so no crowd buzz.

Watching the Sabres-Canes have a Saturday night pillow fight was less than awe inspiring.

The Sabres failed to pelt Cam Ward with rubber biscuits.

Ward made 23 saves for the Hurricanes (13-11-7).

Anders Nilsson made 21 saves for the Sabres (12-11-7).

The Sabres woke up from their slumber to make a game of it in the late stages of the third period. Trailing 1-0 with 2:37 remaining in regulation, Evander Kane tipped a Jake McCabe point shot that found it's way behind Ward. Marcus Foligno was credited with the second assist.

My play of the game was watching Zach Bogosian absolutely destroy Canes forward Victor Stalberg with a thunderous body check. Having a healthy Bogosian back in the lineup adds an element of power and punishment to the lineup that has been sadly lacking for teh past month and a half. Opposing forwards have to keep their eyes up and be cognizant of where Bogo is on the ice, otherwise, they will get trucked into oblivion like Victor Stalberg did on Saturday night.

Bogosian's destruction of Stalberg inspired his listless teammates to wake up and get to work. Which they did. The Sabres dominated the puck for the final 13 minutes of regulation and evntually scored the tying goal with2.5 minutes remaining in regulation.

Bogosian rejoined the Buffalo lineup on Saturday night. Bogosian missed 20 games with a sprained medial collateral ligament.

Go on, take the one point and run to the bus to the charter flight to Miami.

The Sabres lost to the Hurricanes, 2-1 in the shootout.

The Sabres are now 3-7 in overtimes and shootouts.

The Sabres are now 7-3-3 in their past 13 games.

The Sabres are trending upward in the Eastern standings and have three winnable games this week against the Panthers, Hurricanes and Islanders. The goal is to win in those three games in regulation and move up the wild card berth standings.

If Buffalo handles it's business and beats Florida, Carolina and NY Ilslanders in regulation thi sweek, they will find themselves in a fight for third or fourth place in the division by the time Detroit plays in Buffalo next Monday.

I like the way Buffalo is playing. Saturday night aside, they are getting timely goal scoring 5v5 and on the PP. Their goaltending has ben superb and their D is as healthy as it's been all season long. Saturday night marked the first time all season that Dan Bylsma iced a lineup that included his starting six defenders Rasmus Ristolainen, Jake McCabe, Zach Bogosian, Dmitry Kulikov, Josh Gorges and Cody Franson.

Current Atlantic Division Standings:

1. Montreal 44 points in 31 games 2. Ottawa 37 points in 31 games 3. Boston 35 points in 32 games 4. Tampa 33 points in 32 games 5. Florida 33 points in 32 games 6. Detroit 32 points in 32 games 7. Toronto 31 points in 30 games 8. Buffalo 31 points in 30 games

Buffalo’s goaltenders had the seventh-best combined save percentage (.924) in the NHL after last night’s game.

They also had the sixth-best save percentage during 5-on-5 play (.937).

The Sabres last finished a season with a combined save percentage above .920 in the 2009-10 season (.924, Ryan Miller/Patrick Lalime/Jhonas Enroth) and have topped the team’s current mark only four times in franchise history: 1998-99 (.930, Dominik Hasek/Dwayne Roloson/Martin Biron), 1997-98 (.928, Hasek/Steve Shields), 1996-97 (.926, Hasek/Shields/Andrei Trefilov), 2009-10 (.924, Miller/Lalime/Enroth)

Meanwhile in Edmonton, Connor McDavid scored his first ever NHL shootout winner against Tampa Bay on HNIC.
