The Anaheim Ducks were eliminated from playoff contention yesterday, following their 5-2 loss against the Carolina Hurricanes. The loss to the Hurricanes came on the second half of the back-to-back, after defeating the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3 on Friday. Anaheim had also faced the Calgary Flames last week, falling 4-2.
With the two losses in three games last week, the Ducks remain the NHL’s worst team since February by far, with six wins over their last 26 games. It’s a pretty major decline to be eliminated from contention with eight games still remaining, considering how promising of a start to the season the Ducks had.
The Ducks also signed Blake McLaughlin to a two-year, entry-level contract. The deal carries a $883,750 cap hit and will kick in next season.
