The Anaheim Ducks wrapped up their five-game road trip with a loss tonight, falling 5-1 to the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings added to their lead early in the second period though, as Adam Erne put a pass off Joe Veleno and in on a rush, making it a 3-1 game. The Ducks put together a better period (despite still allowing a few high-danger chances) but remained down by two heading into the second intermission.
In the final frame though, the Ducks took some early penalties and Detroit capitalized, with Dominik Kubalik scoring under four minutes into the frame off a nice pass from Oskar Sundqvist. The Red Wings then went on to fire 18 shots on Gibson throughout the period and with under six minutes to go, Detroit went down on a 2-on-1 and while Michael Rasmussen’s initial shot was stopped, Elmer Soderblom followed up to bury the rebound. Detroit then cruised to a 5-1 win, leading to the Ducks’ fifth straight loss.
Anaheim gave up over 40 shots on goal once again, which has been pretty much a standard this season.
The Ducks’ penalty kill was pretty much useless tonight as well, giving up three goals on Detroit’s five power plays. It marks the third time in six games that Anaheim has given up three power play goals.
It wraps up what can only be described as a disastrous road trip for the Ducks, picking up one of a possible 10 points. Anaheim’s schedule also isn’t getting any easier this week, with their next games coming against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Vegas Golden Knights and Toronto Maple Leafs.
