I apologize for the lack of pregame, and late post game commentary. My family has been busy with Christmas festivities, church singing, and decorating. Family comes first, but the Habs are a very close second. Thanks for understanding.
Carey Price and the Canadiens shut out floundering Buffalo Sabres
Carey Price returned from a 10 game absence in the best way possible as he made 36 saves on route to a shut out of the Buffalo Sabres. The Canadiens won 3-0 on Saturday night and kept themselves within 6 points of the last Eastern Conference Wild Card spot, and 4 points of 3rd in the Atlantic Division.

Surprisingly, the NHL's war room in Toronto gave the Habs a break (?!?!?!?!) in the 3rd when they called in a goal reversal late in the period to take away the Sabres only shot past Price after it was determined that S Reinhart ran across the front of Price, making sufficient contact to cause Price difficulty to reposition for the upcoming shot that entered the net. Finally, a break from the NHL...

The Canadiens got a solid game out of their team last night and were paced by a goal in each period from Petry (PP), Galchenyuk (EV), and Byron (SH breakaway). Byron and Galchenyuk also had an Assist each while Drouin had 2 Assists. All the whipping boys came through tonight in big ways and they won a game they are supposed to win against a quickly fading Sabres squad. I don't know what the problem is in Buffalo, but when the only guy who looks like he cares is E Kane you know somethings really off!
Galchenyuk scores on an amazing group effort!

It was really great to see Price enter the net after an injury layoff and perform so well. Price gave us what he always has in net: Hope.
Hope that the Habs can turn it around (although admittedly far fetched), hope that he has regained form, hope that the Habs can actually gain some confidence and watch it spread throughout the team.
Should these things happen, it looks as though a weak Atlantic Division may give an opportunity for a team to sneak in at 3rd despite currently only having 21 points. The Red Wings have lost 4 in a row and sit in 3rd with 25 points. Ottawa has lost 6 in a row and have 22 points and Boston has 3 games in hand while putting up 24 points (and have won 4 in a row). A small win streak with the help of a possibly healed and motivated Price may help the Canadiens stay in the mix for a divisional playoff position. Crazy.
Also worth noting that Price was able to quiet all that unfounded, disgusting noise around him from the MTL media and drop a shut out on the city. The guy everyone said was traded, or waiting for one, came in and gave you perfect goaltending. That's a mic drop if I ever saw one, if the offence gets on track... well, expect the unexpected.

The Canadiens are caught by a sudden cold spell at the 3rd spot of the Atlantic Division. The Canadiens may end up waiting a bit longer before pulling the plug on the season or at least a perceived competitiveness may help add to the value of some guys who will likely be moved near the deadline? At this point, anything is possible until the gap between 3rd in the Atlantic, and 8th Wild Card spot, becomes too wide.
Stay tuned folks, the Canadiens may have some fight left in them.
SCHLEMKO PRACTICES WITH CANADIENS, WEBER ABSENT

David Schlemko is on the ice with the rest of the group after returning from his conditioning stint with Laval. #GoHabsGo
Schlemko has returned to full practice with the Canadiens which is a bit of a relief after learning Weber missed the practice again due to injury. Schlemko had surgery in October to remove bone fragments from his hand and appears set to return any day now.
“That’s what I’d like to do, personally. But, at the same time, we had a winning lineup last night. I’m here to be a part of the team.… – Schlemko on possibly playing Monday.
