Yesterday, TSN’s Pierre LeBrun released a look at the potential division realignment for the 2020-21 NHL season, shown below:
Not finalized yet, and still subject to change, but the 2020-21 four-division re-alignment currently looks like this according to sources:

Anaheim would be up against four very strong teams and even San Jose could bounce back to an extent. The Ducks may have somehow been able to find a way to squeak into the playoffs in the Pacific Division but in this projected division, Anaheim’s chances of being a playoff team are very slim.
If this is the division that the Ducks are competing in next season, Bob Murray probably needs to change his plan, regarding Anaheim trying to compete now. I’m not saying throw in the towel before the season starts, however, the team probably needs to be more realistic with their expectations. If the Ducks aren’t in a position to compete, which would be highly possible in this division, the team shouldn’t be afraid to make some trades that will help them down the road.
You never know, maybe Anaheim could surprise everyone. However, if this division is the one the Ducks are competing in, their chances of being a playoff team just took a huge blow.
