Now that the decision is final, and the NHL will not be sending its players to South Korea, there are several players very upset and saying they are going anyway...How does that make you, as a fan feel?
If you are a fan of a team you have a right to be heard on this issue. You pay for the tickets, pay for the game packages on TV, and buy the products that allows these young men to make millions playing a game we'd all pay to play...
I get that players love to play for their countries, and many even credit their national programs with why they have been able to gain all this success in the NHL. I covered the Olympics and a World Cup in person...the spectacle of it all is incredible..
But that doesn't change the fact that they have a signed contract to play for NHL teams during the same period of time as the Olympics.... And while their national programs of course would love to have them playing in the Olympics there are plenty of other good young players, guys not making millions or even thousands, who would gain from the Olympic experience as well...
I am almost always on the players side in these discussions, but honestly in this case I can really understand the owners/NHL point of view...and that point of view is being echoed by fans as well..
Who among us would demand the right to leave our jobs at the height of when we are needed and contracted for and go do the same job for free for someone else?
